This August, Courville Nursery is offering FREE SHADE TREES to Norwalk residents! In partnership with the Norwalk Tree Alliance, we’re giving away nine stunning native and non-invasive trees that bring beauty, resilience, and climate benefits to every corner of the city.

Even a single tree can reduce temperatures, lower energy bills, clean the air, and help fight flooding. Whether you’re planting near a sidewalk, along a driveway, or in a front lawn — your tree matters.

Pruning is your friend — even larger species can thrive in tighter spaces with good placement and care.

Each species is selected to thrive in Norwalk’s climate, support local wildlife, and deliver powerful shade and environmental value — even in compact spaces.

1. Serviceberry (Amelanchier canadensis)

2. American Hop Hornbeam / Ironwood (Ostrya virginiana)

3. River Birch (Betula nigra)

4. Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis)

5. Witchhazel (Hamamelis virginiana)
