Fall in love with the large 4-5″ flowers with prominent dark red eyes—you’ll have plenty of time, they bloom generously for up to four months or more, from midsummer to frost. The dark green, heavily textured foliage remains a lustrous green well into fall. Growing 6-8′ tall with a similar spread, it can be grown alone or set into a border for a screen or hedge. It’s very tolerant of a wide range of soils.

Often labeled as Fagus sylvatica ‘Roseomarginata’ this the same cultivar as F. sylvatica ‘Purpurea Tricolor’. By whichever name the foliage of this beech has exceptionally unique variegation. When the leaves emerge in springtime the dark purple leaves are edged in pink or rose. The purple centers turn more bronze green with pale pink or white edges as summer progresses, ultimately turning bronze gold in autumn.
